Beauty Influences

I am obsessed with knowing what's in and out as far as beauty and fashion go. I read and analyze way too many beauty blogs and magazines for the thrill of finding out what the look will be for next season. I do believe in personal sytle though, but it is fun to take a trend big in one season and add your own personal touch. It probably stems back to my desire to be a makeup artist if I weren't a PR student.

But what I find fascinating is how beauty and fashion change to represent the culture surrounding it. For example, years ago Twiggy was big. That thin stick straight look was the pinnacle of sexy. Now here we are praising women of more curvier proportions. We all want Beyonce's rear or Angelina's lips. Most of in fact pay for these. I remember years ago in middle school I was the mixed girl in my school my white classmates used to pick on my full lips and my hips. "Why are your lips so big?" or "Geez..thunder thighs!". Now years later it's these  traits that these same girls want. How many women have told me "I wish I had those Angelina Jolie lips! You're so lucky!" or men who compliment me on my cute hour glass figure? But that's the funny thing about beauty. It's influence changes all the time.

This fall I have noticed that certain beauty companies have added Indian influences to their lineup or fashion designers want African tribal looks in their designs. Fashion and Beauty are living breathing creatures that change all the time. I love how as much as we want to be individual we can't because we constantly borrow the influence of another culture. I find it beautfiul and fascinating to watch.

I went to a private school

I went to a private school with a large white population and I remember once during mass (we were bored and bad catholic girls), going around and making kisses on a piece of paper. After a few of us had applied lip gloss and kissed the sheet...the girls ridiculed me for my full lips, the full lips they pay thousands for now. Pretty cool that you wrote about this.. Tiffany
