Another guilty pleasure...Margaret Cho

I will definitely be watching her upcoming show on VH1. Her trailer shows lots of funny, serious and emotional stuff so it looks very interesting and extremely hilarious. I can't wait! Be sure tune in August 21st!

The Last Lecture

If you haven't watched it yet, please take the time to watch The Last Lecture given by Randy Pausch. There's also a book, which I need to buy and read ASAP. I was really inspired and touched by this story and what he said and I feel it's important to pass on the word. If life ever gets you down, please take what he said to heart. It will really give you perspective on things. Randy died just four days ago, on July 25th, 2008.

A True Classic

One of my latest internet habits has been to obsessively check out net-a-porter.com for their new arrivals, which come once a week, and dream about the day when I can afford everything I drool over. As I happily scrolled down this week's newest additions, I instantly fell in love with these Miu Miu sandals. Not only are they suede (I have a fascination with suede shoes/boots for the fall), but the way they are constructed make them different than any typical platform. Everything from it's 5.5 inch cone-shaped heel, to its peep-toe, open back and the way the fabric meets at just the right part of your foot in the front make these beauties a definite classic staple.

Confession: I'm an addict.

If you haven't noticed yet through my diary entries and what-to's, I am a self-prescribed shoe addict, especially when it comes to boots. Luckily, no rehab is needed or wanted in this case.

I love this time of year when all of the fall boots start peeking their way into stores. I especially love it when I find the perfect pair so early on in the season, like these Chloe Equestrian flat puppies. They come in two colors, camel and grey, both of which I completely adore. The leather looks super yummy and comfortable and the heel is the perfect height (not chunky and awkward, yet not completely flat). Mmmm..if only I could manage to save up. ;)

Nice Stems

I saw this picture and had to share. This, ladies, is what I would look like next to a model in heels. I'm a proud 5'3" and over the years, I've outwighed the pros and cons of it. For example, my shortness makes people think I'm still in my early teenage years (I'm close to 23 and in the last 3 weeks alone I have had people think I was 15 and 16 years old). Now, I know this isn't going to be a bad thing when I'm in my 30's and onwards, but it can get irritating especially when I walk into a pricey boutique or department store dressed in flats with full intentions on buying something and I get the not-so-happy-to-have-you-here-little-girl look and service. Another negative is when buying jeans/pants and realize there's enough material to cover the entire length of my shoe and more. This leads to spending a little extra cash to adjust them to my size.

However, after all the little things that can irritate me to pieces about my height, I remind myself that if I were taller I probably wouldn't have the 4"-5" heeled shoes in my collection (and wish list) that I simply adore because, unless I were a model, I'd be too self-councious among my equally short girl friends. I also couldn't do that "little" jump I do into my 6'3" boyfriend's arms without risking a fall.

The moral of this story in the end, is to stand proud and rock what your mommah gave you! Be able to look in the mirror and appreciate what you see. Understand how the pros outweight all the little, and quite irritating at times, cons.

Coming Soon to a Red Carpet Near You!

The images of Versace's Atelier 2008 have been showing up all over the internet and making me drool. I love almost every single one of these ruffled, pleated, and printed glamourous gowns. Check out the collection modeled by Georgina Stojilkovic, along with
Donatella's original sketches (which I always enjoy seeing and comparing) here. I really hope they make it down the red carpet soon! What celebrities do you think could pull of some of these?

What to Shoe: A Piece of Downtown Glamour

If you love bringing attention to your shoes then you must check out these L.A.M.B. T-Strap beauties because they will accomplish just that. So much detailing has gone into the making of this shoe: snake embossed leather, zippers, whipstitching, and not to mention a 4.5 inch heel that will be sure to make your legs look extra-fabulous. Not only that, but they are available in four different colors (brown, black, olive and red). I'm definitely adding these to my wishlist!

Which Way to the Pool?

Another reason I love living in the Bay Area is that the weather, aside from this current scorching heat wave that I'm absolutely loving, allows for the opportunity to wear a scarf year-round. As a must-have accessory in my closet, a scarf can add just the right punch of color and/or personality to any outfit. This one here by A Peace Treaty does all that and more! Not only do I love the navy blue/yellow combination, but the fringe detailing and two-toned effect give it so much more personality than your basic scarf.

Small Steps at a Time

I am completely moved by what happened last Wednesday in my home country of Colombia. To make a long story short, the reason I moved to the U.S. is because of the threats that were being made to my immediate family from the FARC. This was shortly after my grandfather was kidnapped and held for ransom for a few months. Fortunately, my parents moved my sisters and I out of danger as soon as the threats started coming towards us. About two months after we immigrated here, the FARC kidnapped my aunt, uncle and 2 cousins (they let my 2 cousins go soon after because they were both under 2 years old). My aunt and uncle were held for ransom as well, but my family was unable to meet their demands. The night before their scheduled execution, my aunt and uncle escaped from the jungle in the middle of the night with the help of one of the FARC members they befriended (when it was discovered that this member helped, his entire family was executed).

So after the news broke out this week that Colombian military agents posed as aid workers and rescued 15 hostages (including 3 Americans), some of which had been kidnapped for 10 years, I was clearly touched and the progress being made. I even got teary eyed watching this video of the hostages prior to knowing they were being rescued and then after they found out they were free.

Now the news today said that a number of bombs were found planted around the capital city of Bogota, which the military feels is the work of the FARC in response to the rescue of their hostages. I can only imagine what they are planning at the moment to get back at the rest of the country, but what is promising is that the FARC is looking weaker now than ever. However, there are still hundreds of hostages captive, being chained to trees by the neck and dying of diseases only found in the jungle. I pray that the U.S. and France continue to aid in this devastating fight that has been plauging a beautiful country otherwise.

Gilt Groupe, the Online Sample Sale

I'm an "exclusive" member of the Gilt Groupe (I say exclusive because in order to join and shop, you have to be invited by another member) and I'm really amazed at how fast things sell on there. For those of you who don't know, Guilt Groupe sells designer clothing and accessories for women, men and kids at up to 70% off retail prices. Their sales last no more than 36 hours, but most merchandise is sold out as fast as two hours after the sale starts. Some designers they have had featured lately have been the likes of Carolina Herrera, Botkier, Iisli, Chip & Pepper, and Derek Lam. They also have the likes of Valentino, Diane von Furstenberg and John Varvatos merchandise as well.

So if you ever want to add a little bit of designer flair to your wardrobe at a fraction of the price, The Guilt Groupe is your shopping destination. Just remember to be up extra early if you're on the west coast if you're looking forward to a particular sale, as their sales open up on east coast time (usually 10am EST).

ps: If you're not a member yet and would like to become one, leave me your email address or message it to me and I'll invite you! It's that simple :)
