Makeup Intro?

Lately, I've been itching to incorporate something creative and hands-on into my daily routine.  Working as an account exec doesn't really afford me the opportunity to express myself creatively.  (I mean, seriously, PowerPoints and spreadsheets can only be beautified so much).  So, I want to take makeup classes.  I think it would be so fun to learn how to be bold with colors and experiment with different formulas.  Do any of you beauty mavens/product junkies know about an affordable class or school that offers this type of introduction class?

MAC all the way

Why hello! I took a MAC class for $90 and got an hour and half- one-on-one training with a professional. I brought in all my stuff and learned different looks. I loved it! You can even bring in a friend- and do make-up on each other! Just call your local MAC store and see if they offer the classes. I took mine in SF.

Try NARS

I have been a makeup artist and Insurance Agent for years. Yes, the combination is possible. :) If you are trying to save money and learn some tips at the same time, save the $ on classes and go make nice with the NARS counter manager. Tell them exactly what you love, but that it needs to be tamed down for work. NARS has some fabulous products and they tend to be more artsy, than crazy (MAC). I have been lucky enough to work with several brands and to be honest it always comes back to NARS products. I get calls from the manager of the counter when there are specials or even celebrity stylists coming into town to show you the newest looks. You can probably save some time and money and just invest in a few good pieces. The managers certainly want to make you happy and continue seeing you at their counters, so they will invite you to all of the fun things going on. Last month I was invited to spend a day with the celebrity artist Uzo. She was fabulous and works on Drew Barrymore and Jessica Simpson regularly. It was fun to dish the gossip with her and get a great new look--all for free. Of course, I bought a frew products, but you will end up buying a kit in a makeup class anyway. Save the money and schmooze the makeup girls. You will find out soon enough which ones you can trust and which ones will sell you orange glitter and false feather lashes for work.

I feel ya'

I've totally though of taking up make-up lessons as well, because I love beauty products and the fact that this is one thing that women of every size can experience without feeling bad about themselves. One really great school or rather workshop is the posh LA Boutique/Spa Fred Segal(Not neccessarily affordable but with all that it includes is worth a day trip to La-La land and the contacts, etc.): http://shop.fredsegalbeauty.com/Workshops-C35.aspx?UserID=2314849&SessionID=iTU0OKQwhNZoNkdLpQi1
